Rents in Auckland hit a new high in February, according to TradeMe Property, up $10 to $550 a week across the city. The North Shore was a little higher at $595 and Manukau just under at $530.
Some of the most popular listings had nearly 100 enquiries in just two days (Wellington actually saw one property get 107 enquiries in two days). Auckland bucked a nationwide trend that saw rents dip slightly elsewhere.
Townhouses were particularly popular in the early part of 2018, up a whopping 13.5% in Auckland and over 20% in Wellington. TradeMe’s Nigel Jeffries says, “townhouses have been growing in popularity, particularly in Auckland and Wellington as they are typically warmer, drier, easier to maintain and in a better inner-city location.”
