Late Life Divorces On The Rise In NZ

Posted by Impression on 30, Nov 2017

‘Silver splitters’ are on the increase in New Zealand, according to a recent survey that found more over 50s are divorcing once the kids have left home.

This tallies with what we’ve been seeing in the apartment market, with more senior owner-occupiers and tenants than we’ve ever experienced. As our sales team will tell you, not only are empty nesters downsizing to apartments together, but also separately in many cases.

Despite what you might think, leaving a sprawling family home and shifting to a no-maintenance apartment can be bliss for people who are fed up with mowing the lawn, tending the garden and spending all weekend on DIY. With the new style of apartments that’s better-designed and more liveable than ever, we expect to see this trend continue.
