Tenancy rules keep changing – but we’re here to help

The rules for ending tenancies and increasing rent have changed rapidly this year ...

It can be tricky to keep up, but don’t worry, it’s our job to know exactly what’s happening so we can answer your questions.

  • As of 26 June, the tenancy termination restrictions have ended. Landlords can once again terminate a tenancy under the normal rules.
  • The rent increase freeze is still in place. You cannot currently increase the rent for an existing tenant, and that rule will last until at least September 25, 2020. (If a tenant leaves, you can advertise your property at a higher rent.)
  • Where rent reviews could previously be conducted six-monthly, that has been increased to once per year.
